Town of Creston, Washington

Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2, 2026

The Town of Creston ("the Town," "we," "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information this website collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It also explains how we handle mobile phone numbers and text messages. This site is currently a placeholder while the full official website is being built, so the only information we collect through the site is what you choose to give us through the email sign-up form.

Information we collect

We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking on this site.

How we use your information

We use the email address you provide for a single purpose: to send you one message when the official Town of Creston website launches. We do not sell, rent, or share your email address with third parties, and we will not use it for unrelated mailings.

Mobile phone numbers and text messages

The Town of Creston sends text messages from our Town Hall number, (509) 636-3145, to residents and utility customers who have asked to receive them. We collect that permission in one of three ways, and we send no message before we have it: you enter your mobile number and check the consent box on the sign-up form at crestonwa.gov/text-alerts, you enroll by texting JOIN to that number from your own mobile phone, or you sign and date our written Text Message Consent Form at Town Hall. In every case we record the date, the method, and the exact wording you agreed to. Full program details are on our Text Message Alerts page.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.

We use your mobile number only to send the messages you signed up for: replies to messages you send us, water and sewer utility notices, public safety and service alerts, and Town business notices. We do not send advertising or marketing texts. Information you give us may be shared with service providers only as needed to deliver the messages themselves, such as our phone and messaging carrier, and those providers may not use it for their own purposes.

Consent to receive text messages is never a condition of receiving water, sewer, or any other Town service. You may stop at any time by replying STOP to any message or by calling Town Hall at (509) 636-3145. Reply HELP to any message for assistance. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency varies.

How long we keep it

We keep sign-up email addresses only as long as needed to send the launch notice, after which they are deleted unless you have asked to stay on a Town mailing list. You may ask us to remove your email at any time by contacting Town Hall using the information below.

We keep mobile numbers and consent records for as long as you stay signed up for text messages, plus a reasonable period afterward to show that we had your permission. Once you opt out, we keep only the record that you opted out, so that we do not text you again by mistake.

Public records

The Town of Creston is a Washington municipal government. Information you send to us, including email addresses and messages, may be a public record subject to disclosure under the Washington Public Records Act (RCW 42.56). We protect personal information to the extent allowed by law, but we cannot guarantee that records will be exempt from disclosure.

Children's privacy

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the website develops. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
